I'll remember this wedding forever. Not because of the details, dress, or decor (even though all were fab) but because of how I felt the entire day. Every bit of this day was so personal to the point where you'd never mistake who's wedding it was. Dave + Lizzie have the coolest personalities and are undeniably nerdy to the core. I mean seriously, a burgundy suit guys...freaking amazing. Total literary charm with Shakespeare quotes during the ceremony, an entire Lord of the Rings vibe in decor and feel, and a legitimate reception crash by Darth Vader and Stormtroopers. Their reception entrance adrenaline rush was literally like the Queen herself was about to walk through the door: guests on their feet, cameras out, everyone crashing together to get a better look. Still can't get over it.
Now, let me back up to the beginning of the day. I can't not talk about Ewing Manor in Bloomington, IL because it is such a beautiful wedding venue that is bursting with serious charm. If any of you Central IL couples have a style that doesn't fit modern and warehouse-y, check this place out. The stunning grounds encase the castle-like manor with the coolest historical and quirky touches. It really gives you the ability to have an outdoor ceremony and open air reception all in the same place without your guests feeling like they have been trapped in the same square room all day.
Every first look I've ever witnessed is unique in it's own way, and this one was no exception. Dave + Lizzie were in straight-up awe at how each other looked and just couldn't contain it. To witness this brought my brain immediately back to my "why" of shooting weddings.
I always encourage my couples to think about the flow of the day and how they want to experience it instead of just going with the "this-is-how-we-are-supposed-to-do-it" timeline. Newsflash: you don't spend a lot of time together on your wedding day, so plan to make small moments happen. Whether it's a 10 minute block of time after your first look to have a private chat, a half hour to escape with just your wedding party and drink beer on your cool porch (shout-out Zetterbergs!), or bring a little piece of your wedding to a special person a who can't make it to your big day...which is what Dave + Lizzie did. I got to chauffeur these two (which was so cool to have an off the record hang out sesh) to visit Lizzie's Granny. I don't have to tell you how emotional this was, because you can imagine it. She remembered who they were, and got to be a huge part of their wedding in just a small moment.
